Don’t delete your LinkedIn profile, set it to hibernate instead
(Don’t delete your Facebook profile either, it could make you money)
We are all humans and can act impulsively at times. If a situation or emotions prompt you to delete your LinkedIn profile — don’t do it. LinkedIn has a ‘Hybernate’ option which hides your profile just as if you deleted it, but it still gives you time to cool off or avoid unnecessary regrets in the future: future trends are so unpredictable that some day you may be in demand exactly because of embarrasment that prompted you to hide your LinkedIn profile in the first place.
Here are 3 steps to hibernate your LinkedIn profile:
- Go to your profile page, click on your profile picture and choose SETTINGS & PRIVACY
2. Choose ACCOUNT PREFERENCES > ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT in the column to the left, and then click on HIBERNATE ACCOUNT
3. If you want you can pick your reason for doing this, click NEXT and follow the instructions.
You are done.
See? — You lost nothing except your self respect, and removed another unnecessary piece of your digital footprint.
Don’t delete your Facebook account
If you feel strongly about deleting your Facebook profile — don’t do it. Hide it instead.
— Why?
Aged Facebook profiles are very valuable to digital actors working from the shaddows. In other words: you can sell your old Facebook profile for decent money to those who make a living off of propaganda, fake news, and viral posts.
