Facebook mobile app resets your settings to default upon manual login

This post is for those who turn off ‘Show when I am active’ option before scrolling through Facebook on your phone

Did you know that every time you login with your username and password to your Facebook mobile app your preferences are set back to default? One of those settings is “Show when I am active” option. Many of us like to browse Facebook incognito without showing the whole world that little pesky green dot on our profile thumbnail.

Here is how you turn it off on your phone’s Facebook mobile app:

  1. Go to your profile menu (top right corner on your app) > Click on your name “Profile Settings”
Go to Settings in the top right corner, then click on your “Profile Settings”

2. Scroll down to Settings > Click on Profile settings:

Settings, then Profile Settings (not shown here)

3. Scroll down to privacy and click on “Active Status”

Click on “Active Status”

4. Toggle the blue dot so it turns grey (which means OFF)

Switch it off

5. Once you confirm by clicking on “Turn Off”, it’s done.

Confirm by clicking on “Turn Off”

THREE IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER:

  1. If you see others on Facebook being active (having the little green dot on their picture thumbnail) that meanst that you too are showing the same little dot. You can see others being active only if you too have this option switched on.
  2. The above doesn’t transfer to Messenger. Messenger has separate settings that also reset to default and have to be changed regardless of the changes you make to Facebook settings.
  3. A horror story in one screenshot (yes, this too goes back to default):
